Proverbs

  • I am Me!
    'I am Me. In all the world, there is no one else exactly like me. Everything that comes out of me is authentically mine, because I alone chose it...I own everything about me: my body, my feelings, my mouth, my voice, all my actions, whether they be to others or myself. I own my fantasies, my dreams, my hopes, my fears. I own my triumphs and successes, all my failures and mistakes. Because I own all of me, I can become intimately acquainted with me. By doing so, I can love me and be friendly with all my parts. I know there are aspects about myself that I do not know ...but as long as I am friendly and loving to myself, I can courageously and hopefully look for solutions to the puzzles and ways to find out more about me. However I look and sound, whatever I say and do and whatever I think and feel at a given moment in time is authentically me. If later some parts of how I looked, sounded, thought and felt turn out to be unfitting, I can discard that which is unfitting, keep the rest, and invent something new for that which Idiscarded. I can see, hear, feel, think, say and do. I have the tools to survive, to be close to others, to be productive and to make sense and order out of the world of people and things outside of me. I own me, and therefore, I can engineer me. I am me and I am Okay.' --Virginia Satir
  • ~~~Tell IT!~~~
    "Our deepest fear is not that we are inadequate. Our deepest fear is that we are powerful beyond measure. It is our light, not our darkness, that most frightens us. We ask ourselves, who am I to be brilliant, gorgeous, talented, fabulous? Actually, who are you NOT to be? You are a child of God. Your playing small does not serve the world. There is nothing enlightened about shrinking so that other people won't feel insecure around you. We were born to make manifest the glory of God that is within us. It is not just in some of us, it is in everyone. And as we let our own light shine, we unconsciously give other people permission to do the same. As we are liberated from our own fear, our presence automatically liberates others."
  • (~~GOOD CHARACTER~~)
    Good character is more to be praised than outstanding talent. Most talents are, to some extent, a gift. Good character, by contrast, is not given to us. We have to build it piece by piece--by thought, choice, courage, and determination.--J. Luther
  • (~~IN A STILL, SMALL VOICE~~)
    Give her of the fruit of her hands and let her own works praise her in the gates. ************************
  • (~~MAKE THIS DAY COUNT!~~)
    If one advances confidently in the direction of her dreams and endeavors to live the life she has imaGINA'd, she will meet with success unexpected in common hours. (Thoreau)

    Pics: A Ton Style, and a whole lot of it. You've never seen anything quite like this before.

    Gina is the mastermind behind the fashion-tabulous, poetic blog called, "Awed." Her photo album displays an array of original, creative collections which are sure to provide inspiration and motivation.

    She ardently tests the boundaries of crochet with a conglomerate of updated generational styles, from early 1910's-esque high waistline, decorative boutique dresses to 1950's matching secretarial jacket and skirt combinations to modern reconstructed, abstract apparel. Interspliced amongst those are several designs featuring bold, afro-centric patterns. All of her designs showcase an attention to detail.

    With a flaire for the unorthodox, Gina's styles are haute, haute, haute!

Yo! The Hook is Alive! (can you believe I posted the title as "yo", simple right? then came back 10 seconds later to actually "update my title"--what's wrong with you?/who me/us (er, Hookie & Yarnie) hmmmm, THEM! I'm innocent. I do me...issues!!!!!!!!!

Yesterday: I've been complimented!  Complimented_3

You look so pretty in your outfit!  I wish more people could see you!--Diane, owner/Share the Spirit Quilt and Yarns

Don't ya just love 'em?!  There they go, increasing my face value--owwww, face cracking! hee

Thank you Camura--excuse me while I get her button, bk in one, 2 or 3....count along with me one black ball--perhaps a metallic 2 or then ooooh 3 pretty ribbons

Linkbutton Her tag, "i like to crochet" is simply

hmmmm, enough.

Thank you for including me on your blogroll!

Tonight is an entrepreneur workshop in downtown Atlanta.  I gotta get my hook and yarn in attendance, plus pen and paper, smile.  I'm psyched; I'm looking forward to it!

Let me Get My Hook On

later,

May05closeup_1

p.s. Got to place my Avon orders--back in business.

p.p.s. or is it p.s.s.?  We got a home phone number yesterday, yippee.

November 28, 2005

blank...no, I'm not! just a "blank" title; well, I guess not now, huh? hee hee (I have too much fun)

I have seen alot of "ruffled scarves" on leaflets and such that I decided to do my own version--it'll be a w.i.p. since it just popped in--that "pop in theory" or as I affectionately call it--no, not Issues!, ha--"whisperings of inspiration".  I just drew up a rough sketch--now to figure out which yarn and hopefully Gina Renay--yes, I'm talking to ya!--you won't go on ahead with an outfit geared around it.  I hope not; I only have 2 hands and 24 hours.  Speaking of 2 hands--I did go on ahead and completed a capelet using No Boundaries in black variegated with Red Heart Plush in black as the middle part.  Along with pink crystallite beads.  I'm loving it but I gotta get out of here, with outfit on, to do some errands.  It's a dreary day but I'm sunny inside--completed masterpieces do that to cha, smile. Walking in the fruits of your labor.

Um, yesterday, I delivered another order for a skinny scarf done in fuschia.  She loved it and knows her daughter will also.  Smile

I got a busy week up ahead and some new little towns to explore.  Watch my "fiber smoke" huh?  I don't know either but perhaps "an editing job" will, ha.

Word of the day:

quidnunc (KWID-nuhngk) one who is curious to know everything that passes; one who knows or pretends to know all that is going on; a gossip; a busybody

quidnunc comes from Latin quid nunc? "what now?"

What an interesting word and I have--had!--someone like that in my life.  I'm like, go away, I need to breathe.  Get a life and stop trying to leech off of mine.  Toxic relationships, good riddance!

You have Us, Mommy!!!!  We were hinting to you about her .

I know, Hookie & Yarnie.  And I did see it but I also felt sorry for her.

Watch that Mommy.

Yes, children.

Ahhh, it feels good tho to be free again without her trying to find out stuff. quid--how's it spelled? oh, quidnunc indeed.

I will not be forced; I will breathe after my own fashion.

forgot whose quote that is, but it's so appropro here

or

ISSUES!

(what people think about ya--your clothes, personality, voice--and I have a deep one--your vibe, who cares!  love you....and love God)

oh, above?  I have convos with myself. Actually, that's something I heard early this morning.

No straightjacket here

er, you haven't seen them, have you?  I tried to give them the "slip" during Katrina.

yeah, an actual slip.  I'll make my own lining, thank you very much!

hook out,

p.s. "p.robably s.omething" (else?)

Thanks Fran for your comment!  love ya!

November 26, 2005

hmmmm, I noticed at the end of my post, I didn't "title" Let's just call it "Hmmmmm"

Well, well, I missed yesterday's post.

Angel (dog), Austina and Jazz (cats) are HOME! from the shelter, No More Homeless Pets Atlanta!  Woo hoo!  Angel keeps getting out the backyard to explore; so Hubby, this morning, made a quickie gate for the deck.  She's still too smart; oh well.  It beats being tied up, like we had to back in MS.

Later on today, we're on our way to pick up another bed, white wicker, and hopefully the matching set will be available soon.  I took more time out to clear out the walk-in coat closet which I am thinking of converting into a spare quiet room.  "Hey, Mom, where are you?"  shhhhh

More and more design ideas keep popping to the forefront...

An authentic life is an exhilarating, creative challenge...

muse on that.

As an aside, I noticed yesterday when I was out and about that I was getting attention (well?) because of my clothes.  Well, a lady and her grandaunt inquired about my crochet skirt.  But I picked up they weren't really interested in talking, but taking.  I am a Giver, so I let them know that there are books on the crochet market that shows how to make a skirt.  "I didn't know you can do that with crochet!"  I even showed them some of my pics, but again picked up jealousy and I don't wear green well cast-on by another, so I left them alone knowing that my offering my crochet services, for a fee, wasn't going anywhere.  So, we learn, guard and move on....

no constraints/restraints on me

You will not lessen, diminish my talent.

You can't.

Oh, I'm not talking to you Audience!  Just healing myself from a tired, glancing curiousity.  Sometimes, I'm a little (too) nice.

Got my first Avon order yesterday.  Good.

(untitled) what?! that's impossible! Well, you DO know what today is, don't cha? So, that's why it's "untitled", goodness! opps! (blush)

Happy_thanksgiving_text_md_clr_1 Special Thanks!

I am thankful for a new start in GA: a house, clothes and furniture; family, cyberfriends, as well as the new ones I have since we arrived after Hurricane Katrina's devastation, life and liberty--corny, but true! God who loves me, altho I have to bear thru with the seasons of my life; but I am passing thru, not staying.

(click on the image for the animation--now I gotta close my door before the leaves blow in!  Don't ya love fall?)

We're off--

yeah, you're Off all right!

hush, Hookie & Yarnie!  Oh, happy thanksgiving to you both!

(snicker)

what?!

We're not real!

But you sure do produce real results, which are readily seen--so there!  And I'll tell my real children you asked about 'em.

better not!  Well, except Alyisha--she's cool!

Yeah, she crochets very well, thank you and props to her instructor. I thought you'd change your tone!

unlikely....

Well, off (talking to you now, Audience) to the relatives for Thanksgiving.  Have a good one.

Yes, Hookie & Yarnie will also be in attendance.  They are graciously received....when they behave.

We like the fresh, cold air...

We only act up around you mom.  We're "perfect" around the other folks, unless they get funny around ya mom and then we stick our tonguesout at 'em.

yeah, I've seen it done.  Hilarious, I might add.

We got your back, literally.

Love ya guys.

We love you too, Mother to Your Ingenuity.

hook out,

Gee whiz, she really is off the loop!

Thanksgiving is thanksliving

I noticed that on a church billboard this afternoon and thought it was so appropriate to

hopefully walk in,

moment to moment.

I do try.

So, yesterday, I was thankful for a donated dryer and floor lamp!  thank ya!  Also, got paid for an order of scarves.  The elementary school prinicipal placed an order--all right now.  Handed out alot of business cards, which is always good. (even better when they call, smile)

Today was another chosen "rest day", yippee!  When I did go out to pick up hubby, I stopped by a yard sale.  The adults were deaf and I got an opportunity to use my sign lang.  They were impressed!  It came back to me slowly, but it did.  It felt good and yes, I was silly but that's me, ha.

I enjoyed these 3 ladies' sites:

Kaye Adolphson

Have a safe one!

opps, I missed a day! you see, when I did awake, it was 2:31am...oh well, I try...

But the body knows best.

I had a good, restful day yesterday.  Oh, to have more of those!  I believe I will do that more often.  Alas, on the way home from picking up Hubby, there was a terrible accident and a dead body.  I've nvr seen anything like that!  And yesterday morning, my middle child saw an accident happen right behind us...

It was a very cold, dreary day yesterday.  Unfortunately, there are far too many accidents occurring daily--and I don't like driving in traffic!

Speaking of which, early this morn' poor Hubby decided to fix the tire that had a nail in it.  Well, the instructions told him that it would be ok to drive to the nearest gas station to fill up the flat...yeah, I said FLAT!  Even I knew not to drive on a flat!  And, of course, no air went in to fill up the tire so he spent a good 45 minutes changing the tire to put the spare on.  I took the girls to school and him to work--he was very late!....

My appointments had to be rescheduled today, ugh!

"I feel like screaming!"  a voice within.  So, in traffic, I screamed....

then I laughed; it felt pretty good.

Word of the Day:  maelstrom: 1. a large, powerful or destructive whirlpool 2. something resembling a maelstrom; a violent, disordered or turbulent state of affairs

All of these frustrating emotions were stirring within and altho it wasn't as bad as it could have been, (maelstrom), a good scream was necessary.

Well, I finished 3 scarves in the car from this morning's mayhap.

Unto another chapter in my life....see you, perhaps, at the revised version, ha

Mark, how much is a cell phone car charger adapter? I really believe I lucked out--$1.00! Now, you know that was a find--maybe I should go bk and get another! and it works!!!! oh joy

(tap, tap huh? psst, they're out there)

Company!  Oh hi, when did you come in?! without knocking...

Oh, the title thing-y:  sometimes I have conversations with real people and sometimes not. "I'll have to get you a nightstand or build you one."  Why, because my keyboard is on the bed?  "No, the light--it's hard to sleep."  Sorry....(perhaps one will be donated)

Back to my day....I delv'd a completed shawl to my customer, client, or should I just say "peeps"?  It's always grand to get paid: "She perceives that her merchandise is good....."  "give her of the fruits of her hands and let her own works praise her in the gates"

I am just going to take it easy Monday and do some cleaning up and crocheting.

Speaking of which, I had a grand ole time walking in the mall and this time, ta dah, chewing gum while I crocheted! But waaah, I ran out of yarn!  2 salesladies commented that they didn't know what the heck I was doing!  I guess that is a strange sight:  fingers moving in the air with fun fur (fuschia) coming from a bag and at one point, there is a strand waving in the air....I guess I nvr thought about people NOT knowing what I was doing!  I shud remember tho because since people want to come up and touch these gorgeous novelty yarns, it's hard for them to conceive it is actually being worked into fabric as they watch....I'll be a little more sensitive to their plight, ha.

Thank you Tammy for your comment and compliments!

I was at Joann's today purchasing some yarn and material.  Well, I had a few coupons and one was for 50% off for myself and 3 friends.  Well, at the checkout line, I presented my coupons and told her my friends want their purchases discounted too.  Now, she didn't see my friends, and yet I did.  They wanted the pink yarn for their pink elephants.

(How do you deal with a pink elephant?  Reply: stay off the crack!).

The cashier kept looking for them, but they were right there all along conversing with me.

poor dear cracked up....

that makes 2

--or 5--

of us....

Winsome is the word for the day--didn't I mention, I kinda like type the first thing--er, the second thing that comes into my mind for a title post but I have also been known to go back and edit, yeah, here? time will tell...forbear, I have to most times

ha!

What a wonderful, engaging day!  Hmmm, lead-in to the word of the day,

winsome: 1. cheerful, merry, gay, light-hearted, 2. causing joy or pleasure, agreeable; pleasant

My day started off with a bad start in the sense that either the directions to a Career Assessment were given to me incorrectly or I took them down wrong.  So, I missed that appt and didn't have the phone no. on me.  What I try to do with time permitting is to do a "dryGalleryposter run" so I'm not rushing to find an unfamiliar place; but thought it would be fairly simple to find, er--NOT!  oh well.

And I was dressed to the nines too! Ahem, no it wasn't that one over there--sweeeet tho, ha.  That particular picture was destroyed in the storm but so glad I got it in my computer!

I got alot of compliments on my outfit!  This is what I did, if I caught you staring, I'd wiggle my anklet at ya, then wave at you with my bracelet and then shown my matching shawl!  They loved it!  Got interest and giving out my business cards.  The most impressionable thing that happened was stopping off at a community center in Duluth that has an upcoming craft festival--aw, vendor space all sold out!  They were digging on my threads--get it, "threads" and I showed them some of my pics.  They were blown away:  "You are not only a designer but an Artist!"  yeah.  "As you can see, we do have shows here, leave your card with us, I want our director to get in touch with you."  weeeeel, I ran out of cards but I will be back in the area Sunday and drop off a few.  One of the workers wants his girlfriend to learn.

What else?  I stopped off at the local lib to get info on local flea markets, sat for a while, chatted and crocheted--got another order!!!!  bam

Shout-outs to Regina (Girl, stop Re-peating yourself, Re-Gina, get it?), Jackie and Yanely over at The Big Red Chair Event--Radio Shack, Gwinnett Mall.  They videotaped my girls sitting in The Big Red Chair and I crocheted and chatted with 'em.  Awwww, they are lv'g Sunday and not enough time to take an order and fulfill it....waaaaah!

Also, continued to walk, crochet and chew my tongue--huh?  I didn't have any gum:  walking, talking and chewing gum....in the mall--well, I hit 2 today.  It grabs the attention!  Plus what else do I have to do but "engage myself"?  I got my New York upbringing to "watch my back"--hopefully with a beautifully crafted crochet outfit resting on it, smile.

I better keep 100 cards on me at any given time since I am running out of the ones I do keep in my purse.  And speaking of my purse/disaster area that it is--even if I get a bigger bag, that'll get stuffed also.  When I had a tiny bag, each time I zipped it close, I sucked in my stomach!  Now, that was scary!  Huh, the picture above, a few pounds settled in and they better move on out!  I got to walk it off--hmmmm, it's cold brrr out there!  Do you know, it hit 29 degrees this morn!  It was about 55 later on.  I gotta dig out some more of my crochet wares that I was able to save from the storm...

Shout-outs to Chris and Roni of Junkyard Jeans--gorgeous bags!

Shout-outs to The Unknown Named Manager at McDonalds and employees who loved my crocheting while waiting for Hubby to be dropped off from work.

One of my buddies, Lisa, who incidentally asked for a Christmas sweater just today wants to call Oprah--"she gotta know about you!  Your work is awe!some!" yeah.  Oprah, girl, you listening--be expecting a call.  Let's do lunch!

Winsome is the word--my face is hurting!Artpostersideview

an "off the chainfence experience" it's possible she/me/them--keep ya guessing--fell on their head

Convo told to me by Daughter No. 1:

English Teacher:  How do you kill a blue elephant?  Ans:  Shoot it with a blue elephant gun.

How do you kill a pink elephant?

Daughter's loud response:  You stay off the crack.

~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
Mom, that's mean!
Whaaat, you said it!
oh yeah
~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~(a mini Gina, scaaaary!)

Mom, mom.

(silence)

MOM!

whaaaat!

I just saved a bunch of money on my car insurance  by switching to Geico!

~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~(this is "Jami Hour" pray for her:  mini-issues!)
The Jami-Hour has bn pre-recorded; thank goodness the "live" feed died! back to our regularly scheduled blog-a-gram.
I rec'd alot of compliments on my crochet curlique hemmed skirt.  It was swirling all about to its own drumbeats.  Skip to my loo my darlin'!
Gave out alot of business cards today--even ran out; had to go home to get some more; yeah, I was embarrassed!
I was in one of the malls today, walking and crocheting!  nope, no chewing gum...
We were sooo very blessed tonight by the generousity of my children's school faculty and students. We were treated to dinner along wih several other Katrina families with a Mardi Gras (look, I'm not from there/Louisiana so I may not have spelled it correctly.  Huh, oh yeah, there's a dictiionary about but....) theme. So gracious of them and also presenting each family with gift cards to Walmart and Macy's!  The school collected quarters from the students and their families for the Katrina effort!  $2,654+
Thank you!  Thank you one and all!
Oh, and I crocheted and ate....I got 2 orders; bless ya! bless ya one and all and the probability of more.
Earlier my neighbor stopped by unexpectedly--I guess that's what they do, but without the milk and cookies this time, ha.  But she did have a bag full of yummy yarns--it was "teach me how to crochet so I can have gifts for Christmas!"  Sure thang but it's I got errands to run hour and I'll have to catch ya tomorrow.  She's so sweet--we won't give it away, shhhh Audience; you just may know her.  Has she been by to deliver milk and cookies to you too?
Mom, they come by with casseroles!
(The Jami-Hour is back! Quick, go to another blog after you stop, drop and roll!)
